What is the true price?

If you are currently being surcharged for bandwidth usage, you should carefully consider what is the true price for your web site. Unlike many hosting companies, Digital Daze does not have an extra surcharge for bandwidth usage. We keep it simple so you know what your bill will be each and every month.

So why should you be concerned about the extra charges that some hosting companies have? The following explanation should provide you with a good understanding of how important it is to understand the true cost of hosting your web site.

Even a small web site usually has at least 10 pages of content. Almost all pages contain more than just an .html file such as .gifs or .jpeg graphic files. Therefore, it is not unreasonable to assume that each page will require a minimum of five hits* (one for the .html file and four for graphics) which is roughly equivalent to 50 kilobytes per page. If your site has just 10 pages, each visitor must download ~500 kilobytes to view your site.

If your current hosting company limits you to 2.5 gigs of transfer per month (which a lot of companies do), your web site will only be able to service 5,000 visitors a month. After that point you will be billed an extra .10+ cents per additional megabyte of transfer. Therefore, if you have an additional 5,000 visitors to your site, each of who view all ten pages of your web site (for a total of 10,000 visitors), you will incur an additional $250. An extra $250 per 5,000 visitors is a high price to pay for traffic! Keep in mind, that amount will continue to accumulate until the end of the month.

Literally, the bottom line is that it is important to understand the true price of your hosting service. Digital Daze makes it easy, without having extra surcharge for bandwidth usage, so that you know you are getting a good deal at the beginning and at the end of the month.

* - A "hit" is any request for a file, either .html or a graphic, by a visitor.
